Why this page exists saying nothing

A points program that is neither announced nor denied is a strong incentive for people to trade in the hope that it is being counted. That gap is worth closing explicitly, in the place someone would look. If a points program launches, it will be announced in the protocol changelog and documented here before it starts accruing — not backdated, and not revealed after a period of activity it was silently measuring.

What would be published before any accrual begins

  • What counts, precisely enough to be computed independently rather than trusted
  • What does not count, including wash trading and how it is detected
  • The accrual window, and whether it is retroactive to a stated date
  • Where a balance is readable, and whether it is chain state or a service’s record
The last one is the one worth watching. Everything the protocol charges — fees, tiers, rebates — is chain state derived from committed blocks, and can be recomputed by anyone from public data. A points balance that lives only in a database is a different kind of object, and it should be labelled as one rather than presented alongside numbers that are verifiable.
